Having made a small army of demons, I decided to add one more creature to the collection. And since I have only three airborne monsters (the Gnaw Demon, the Shadow Demon and the Vulture Demon), this time I decided to sculpt a nasty looking insectoid 3D printable model. So today`s special is the Fly Demon! But looking at this Iconic Miniature it can be called with different names – like drone demon, buzz demon or even mosquito demon! Plus it can substitute with ease other notable in different table-top games minis – like the Chasme demon in Dungeons and Dragons (D&D / DnD) world, or the Plague Drones of Nurgle in the Warhammer universe.
The main concept was to create an insectoid demon. And since it is said that demons are formed from evil or cursed human souls, so my monster resembles a humanoid with insect deformations. And that is the reason the head of this 3D printable model looks like a twisted human face with burning with anger eyes and some hair leftover, but at the same time possesses demonic appearance – long protruding like a mosquito nose / probe, razor-sharp teeth and pointy tongue (like a snake), plus edge facial lines as if wearing some kind of natural chitinous armour. And to be honest the face of the demon looks quite similar to the one of Silco – one of the main evil characters in Arcane (Riot Games and Netflix tv series), but he has a shorter nose 🙂
The rest of the body of this monster is the classic mutant one with six limbs and grotesque look. From the head an armoured neck goes down to the thorax, which resembles to some extend to a human torso with chest muscles and shoulders covered with protective plates. From them two demonic hands come out. They are all covered with chitinous armour – tough skin and many spikes. Despite the humanoid appearance the hands end with three fingers with sharp impaling claws.
The whole back of the thorax is covered with impenetrable protective shells and two pairs of insectoid wings sprout from it – one big and one small. Initially they were intended to be translucent as of a fly or a mosquito wings, but at the end I left them with some colour to showcase them better. But if you print this Iconic mini from translucent resin and paint it – you can leave the wings transparent.
Beside the hands the thorax also house two more limbs – two of four legs. They all look insectoid modified by the demonic energy that fills this monster. The legs are segmented and ends with claws that allows this fly demon to get hold virtually on any surface and stays even on the ceiling with its head downwards. Also the legs are covered with the tough chitinous armour that allows the creature to withstand even the strongest blows.
Next comes the abdomen. This is the classic insect part that ends the body of this monster. It is roundish and again has the model`s chitinous plating that covers the upper part section of the abdomen. And here are the last limbs of the monster – the last pair of legs. I was thinking to add a sting at the end of the abdomen to make it more nasty, but decided to keep it for a different demonic wasp monster.
Here it is important to say that all limbs are modular. They are printed separately from the body of the demon and can be rotated on the joint in some directions. Plus two of the legs have peglegs for the purpose to be glued to the base (which is available in two options – first one with holes for the peglegs and a clear second one). However, the legs with the peglegs have another version – clear from the peglegs, so they can be used to make the complete model that can be put on a different base or on the same one but in a different position or pose, so that you can show your creativity 🙂
And finally comes the base. Since this is a big creature, I decided to use a large base. But taking into consideration the viciousness of this demon and the ability to fly, I decided to make a small island with some skulls scattered around (past victims) and all this in a lava lake which will be hard to access except by creatures that can fly or have fire immunity. So the monster can catch prey and bring it to its island and eat it in peace. Plus there will be almost no option for the victim to escape or anyone to come and save it. Of course there are some small half-submerged stones floating around the lava lake, just to underline the hellish design of the base.
And this is pretty much about this demon!
